Baked Stuffed Tomatoes

6 med. fresh tomatoes
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt & pepper
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
2 c. cooked rice
1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
2 tbs. butter, melted
2 tbs. water
Cut a thin slice of top of each tomato,
leaving a 1/2 in. shell. Scoop out seeds,
& pulp,Invert tomatoes on paper towel
to drain.
Meanwhile, cook beef & drain. Add
tomato pulp, chilii powder, sugar, salt,
pepper & oregano.Bring to boil, reduce heat
Simmer 45 to 50 min. or til slightly thickened.
Stir occasionally, add rice, mix well, simmer 5 - 6
min.
Stuff tomatoes & place in a greased 13 x 9 pan.
Combine bread crumbs & butter. Sprinkle over
tomatoes. Add water to baking dish. Bake
uncovered 375 20 to 25 min. or til crumbs are
brown.
Serves 6
